Why ‘Active Listening’ is Important?
Did you know that ‘hearing ≠ listening‘?
Being a good listener goes beyond simply sitting next to someone and hearing their stories about a bad day. A good listener practices a skill known as ‘Active Listening’ — listening with empathy, understanding what the other person is going through, and showing that we are present to support them, to listen, and to understand.
Opening our hearts and actively listening to others can help create a better society by:
1️⃣ Improving Relationships: When we actively listen, we show our interest and willingness to be a supportive friend, which strengthens our connections.
2️⃣ Feeling Seen and Valued: Listening with empathy allows the speaker to sense our genuine desire to help. Our intention to understand their experiences and feelings makes them feel appreciated.
3️⃣ Creating a Safe Space: By actively listening, we create an environment where the speaker can open up and be themselves without fear of judgment or devaluation.
